"End of the World....?"

"What if it turns out that a life isn't defined by who you belong to or where you came from, by what you wished for or whom you've lost, but instead by the moments you spend getting from each of these places to the next?"    Jodi Picoult  Vanishing Acts

I got this from Penny, who got it from Betty who got it from her friend Fran!

Some people are expecting the end of the world tomorrow -- since it will be June 6, 2006. (6.6.6)

I think this is just plain silly -- but it does bring up something that isn't acted on enough in our busy lives... IF tomorrow were the last day of the world:

1) What do you want to be remembered for?

I have not had great success stories in my life.  Nothing I am overly proud of inparticular... I have looked the other way on more than one occasion when given the chance to do something meaningful, out of fear of failure, or something else.  But the one thing that will forever stand true about me is that I put my children first before anything else, and that I am entirely devoted to being a good mom to them.  Of course, I make mistakes like any mom will, but I am never afraid to admit it, or teach them the value of an apology.

2) What would you wish you would have done?

Bear with me on this one:  I wish I would have taken more time to smell the roses.  It always seems to be "hurry, and hurry up now, before we are late!!"  I also wish I had worked harder in school so my 6th grader wouldn't make me feel so inferior!!!  I wish I hadn't fought with my dad every single day during my teenage years.  I wish I hadn't veered off down a destructive teenage path, even though I learned from it.  I wish I had listened to my heart.

I wish Ihad waited...

Michelle

Such thoughtful comments, as I've come to expect whenever I read your entries.

Its obvious, Michelle, that your legacy is secure and that your heart will live on long past your own days in the smiles and laughter and gentle hearts of your beautiful girls.

And we can spend our time regretting the mis-steps of our past or using what we've learned from them to make a better place for ourselves and those we love in the days we have remaining. There is still time to smell the roses.  There is still time to listen to your heart.  And from all I read in your words here, you are well on your way.

Wishing you happiness and peace.

Rob

I'm always in a hurry too, don't know where I'm going but always have to get there fast.  You sound like a wonderful mom, I know I love my kids so much.

Michelle.. you always write from your heart, and this entry was no exception.
Sometimes, I wish I hadn't waited..   I've been sitting around waiting for so long that I've missed out on life...

Hugs,
Jackie

Wonderful entry. I would've wished that I waited too..but then I realized..if I had waited..I wouldn't have the experience, knowledge and wisdom that I have now. See..later in life, through heartaches and denial...somehow I managed to see the light at the end of the tunnel and realized that things happens for a reason.
If today was the end of the day and I have waited...then I would've missed on a wonderful family and self that I have now.

Would you be this wonderful woman today, if not for the times you fell along the path? I think not! You are a gift to me from God!

I believe that the tapestry of life contains remembrances of the most important moments . . .  but yes, there are the threads between these monumental events that make our tapestry WHOLE.

It is during those more tranquil quiet periods of our life between the MOST important moments . . .  that we can sit with a woman whose marriage is failing and help her as she makes plans, we can read a book with a scared elderly person, comfort a first time mom-to-be, clean and bandage a scraped knee, hug our pets and thoroughly appreciate them, water all the beautiful plants that give us such joy and life, make a call to a friend in need, call a relative we're concerned about.  Do something kind for someone we barely know . . . learn something new that might be of service to friends and neighbors . . .  these bits of living are what I believe make up the important threads in between the BIG important events in our lives.

Most importantly, I think that we need to TRY to reach out a hand in friendship and fellowship to one who is needing, hurting, longing . . .   for something better.  We can show them that they can think, plan, learn, do and BE MORE!  We can be support for those who are changing . ..   positive life change requires education from those who have already been through it and lived to tell the tale!

So, the threads that hold our life events together MAY WELL be the most important threads . . .  the connective tissue in our living breathing tapestry!  God Bless.  ;-)
