Snow Day Bliss

We have been blessed with a Snow Day.

And it is a blessing in more ways than one.  Yes, we have an unexpected day of rest to add to our weekend.  But there's more...

January thaw...  A wonderful concept, really.  Happens every year, right on schedule.  The temperatures rise, the sun shines brightly for a few days, then.... rain.

I love a rainy day, don't get me wrong.  We need the rain, to quench nature's thirst and to appreciate the warmth of the sun.  It's calming, to listen to and watch quietly from the livingroom window.

But it also leaves behind a whole lot of grey.  Muddy streets are lined with salted trails of ice.  Trees become bare and appear to ache for their lost blanket of white... I can almost hear their branches cry out to the moon.

So here we are, in the midst of winter's blissful promise:  Light always returns in one way or another.  Whether it be in the form of a white, fluffy snowfall or the bright rays of a gleaming sun.  Or simply, beautiful, in the hope that lives within us all, if we are wise enough ~ and strong enough, to hold onto it with all our hearts ~ even as it rains.

we got the same exact snow :) and have a day off as well.
my back isn't happy, having just come inside from doing some shoveling
and cleaning off the car, but my i smile at how pretty it looks outside.
the 50 degree temps of last week were also a nice blessing, but
back to winter we must go! and, it's not bad - the temp is 40 right now!

enjoy the rest of your day, dear.

Oh...we were supposed to get that snow and it missed us.  It was just a tad too warm.  We haven't had a real snow yet and I miss it!

Beautiful entry....

If only we got some of that snow here.  Our winters are pretty much days of 20-60 degrees and if it does precipitate, it is either ice or rain.  We never get any of the fun stuff.  But we do get the salt lined streets after an ice storm.

We had a little snow, also, just enough to give us a coating & cover the tree limbs.   It showed off their shapely branches. Highlighting the trees form so magnificently .  It looked so beautiful this morning as I drive thru a few local towns.  But as I headed back home at mid day, everything seem to melt & become dreary. ; (
Hope yours lasted~

<sigh>  Ever the poet when you write about such things as nature.  I love it.  You always make me smile and feel good about life... even snow.. and I don't care for the cold stuff that much! lol  But.. you make it sound so .... so..warm and cozy.. even inviting... :)

Glad you had a snow day.  I love a beautiful snow, but I hate to go out afterward and get all that grit and dirty snow on my car.  And I think I'm about done with rain for this month.  My yard still squelches when I walk out.  It's sunny here today, though, and very nice.

I find that the winter saps my soul every year, but it never completely drains it dry, and Spring seems to come just quickly enough! Hope it works that way for you too!

I love snow.  We haven't gotten a great deal of it this year, but I am still crossing my fingers.  I can relate to not enjoying the thaw, we have a great deal of dirt in our property, which translates to mud.

Lovely photo, makes me wanna go find snow right now.  ;)

What a gorgeous photo!  We've had that kind of snow here in Michigan.  Now we're due for some bone chilling cold, which is what comes after "our" January thaw.  ::sigh::  This was a beautifully written piece, I enjoyed it.

Your photo reminds me of when I was a kid up in Wisconsin
as we had several evergreens around our house.  That was
over 50 years ago.

Your entry really captured what a peaceful beautiful entity snow really is. If I had a choice, I would take Spring, Summer Fall and a pure snow filled winter. The barren world of a winter brown gets to me sometimes. Rain and cold, well....it's not my favorite!

Beautiful post. How does that saying go....You don't know what your missing until you've danced in the rain. Wonderful sentiments for those of us who are buried under and ice and snow awaiting Springs promise of return to warmth. Stay safe and loved dear friend. (Hugs)Indigo
