Easter Bunny Revealed...

First of all, if anyone could kindly explain to me how I can get my everlovin' "skinny" journal back, please do so!  I HATE having to scroll in order to read it all, as I'm sure any reader would.

Well, the week is progressing nicely.  The weather is warming up, which is getting us outside.  It's amazing what a little fresh air will do to a person.

So, as I mentioned before, Amanda is getting older and all the more wiser, and sadly, I knew that sooner or later she would be asking about the reality of easter bunnies, fairies and jolly fat guys.  I lucked out in some ways, but it's not over yet... here is a jist of our conversation last night after her sister was busy showering.  (That's the cue right there..)

"Mom, I can I ask you a question?"

"Of course!" (as I sit contentedly infront of my emails...)

"You have to PROMISE you'll tell the truth, though."

"Okay, I promise ~ "

"Is the Easter bunny real?"

(pause, pause, pause...)

"Honey, I told you I was out of money after clothes shopping for you girls on Saturday.  What makes you think I could put that kind of spread on the table?!"

"MOOOOM... the truth, remember?"

(typical 12 year old :\ )

"Do you really want to know?

"Yes."

"No, he isn't real, honey."

SMILES!  I got SMILES!

"Can I help hide the eggs next year for Mailee?"

"We'll see, but you have to promise not to tell her.  She deserves to have more years of Easter bunny visits.  Just as many as you've had.  Even if you're fighting and so mad at each other, you CAN NOT tell her."

"Okay, I promise..."

And after all, a promise is a promise.  SO, that didn't go so badly like I had envisioned.  No devastation like I had experienced.  Although, she didn't ask about the jolly fat guy, so I may be in for a real treat at some point.

Then again, she may continue to surprise me.

Wishing you all a happy day!!           Michelle

(((M)))  Catching up...AGAIN...sorry.  I had the sme encounter with my son in '04...the Santa issue.  He surprised me too...same reaction.  But, the most poignant thing happened Christmas Eve...he had no surprises (he'd help wrap all the gifts but his).  He was SO sad, that he decided to "pretend" a little longer.  Poor little buddy...  Oh me...parenthood. ;)  C.  http://journals.aol.com/gdireneoe/thedailies

Not sure what you mean by your "skinny journal", but if you mean what I think you do, try this:  On any white space on your journal page hold down your "control" button and at the same time move your scroll button on your mouse.  If you move it forward it will make the print on your page smaller, and if you movit back it will make it larger.  Let me know if this helps.

My mother or father never filled our heads with crap since we grew up we knew the truth my mother nor father wasnt going to let any big fat man in a red suite who claims he comes down chimenys take credit for their hard work on earning and buying toys and we knew from the get go that a bunny had nothing to do with easter it didnt walk on water and rise nor lay painted chicken eggs Since we knew this stuff we knew that they allowed to do it for fun we didnt hunt for plastic eggs filled with candy no we hunted for money in them plastic eggs.

Michelle: If you can't get your journal back to its former skinny self by editing journal features, you might want to email journals editor Joe Loong and tell him. It might be a technical thing that his AOL people can fix? Anyway... it's good to tell the kids the truth. By twelve, most know the truth and don't want to let it go for fear they'll lose the treats that come with making believe. I'd say that by nine or ten, pretty much they know, and if they have older siblings, they know even younger. I never had my son believe in the Easter Bunny, but he still got a little basket of treats, and he still got to find Easter eggs... In school, I am so glad to see less and less teachers bringing in special candy treats and having parties for Easter... I haven't brought candy treats for any holiday for the past two years, and the kids don't even notice it. I do give them treats from time to time (like we have Bubble Gum Friday) to mark a week of good works. But I was fast getting tired of Christmas treats, Valentine treats, St.Patricks' Day treats (each month has a special day, and the cards and candy people would have us think we need to buy cards and candy every month to demonstrate our love!! I don't want to spend my money that way... you know what I'm talking about, you being a teacher. So, what I really came by to say was thank you for coming to my journal and leaving a comment in the Polyphemus First Flight Entry. Glad you enjoyed it... I hope you have a wonderful week, and hope you get your skinny journal back soon. I did have to scroll over to read it. That's weird... I wonder how that happened? I'll bet an email to Magic Smoke Joe will answer your question. He's always answered mine in the past! Bea

I figure that's the perfect time to tell them.. when they ask.  And you told the truth, which was a good thing.  I think when they start to question the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, the tooth fairy.. then, as hard as it is for us to give up that imaginary icon that they have believed in for so many years .. it has to happen eventually.  Sometimes, I think it's harder on us, then them..
