Well It's About Time...

One person's moment is another person's lifetime...

Take that single most exciting moment of your day, or week, or whatever it may be.  It can be as simple as a child's laugh, or as momentous as your first kiss (or even better!).  Usually, these happy moments come and go so quickly that we haven't even a chance to fully enjoy them.

At that same moment, a child is abused.

A new bride has just learned she has cancer.

A freak accident takes the life of someone's best friend.

Or you're wide awake at 3:00 am and the clock just ticks on and on and on....

Isn't it interesting how life's precious moments seem to slip by so quickly, often times even barely noticed.  While the sadness and sorrows in life, which fall upon all of us, makes time seem to stand still?

There isn't enough time in the day, I might say to you ~ with my busy comings and goings.  Monday morning (especially if the day starts out a bit edgy) I might think, oh, Friday is sooo far away.  And then before I know it, it's the weekend and my days have come and gone.  Where did they go?  What do I remember about the week?  What little piece of magic did I miss in the hustle and bustle of living?  Was it a smile?  Was it a bloom, hiding quietly on the hill, just waiting for someone to notice?  Was it a chance left unnoticed?

When I think about my growing up years, I try so hard to remember little details about where I played and what kind of fun we had in the neighborhood.  I recall many mishaps and times of sadness at getting in trouble, or being teased.  I want my children to notice and remember those fleeting moments of joy... the kind that make time fly, you know, when we're having fun.  Heck, I WANT TO NOTICE!  So often I'm preoccupied with all the to dos in the day.  I've been a bit homebound the last few days as I've been battling Bronchitis.  This is such a trivial thing... just a bug that I'm going to get over like, tomorrow!  I am so blessed to be alive and healthy and able to walk out my door and SEE and HEAR and FEEL all of the "moments" in time that will occur in a day, or week, or what have you.

And guess what....

SO ARE YOU!

So let's make those moments last, shall we?  Live life to the fullest.  I'm slowly learning.  It takes some practice and getting used to, but God willing, I'll get there.  Care to join me?

We're taught, at least here in the west, that life is a vale of tears, that happiness is fleeting, that misery loves company.  We're taught the "value" of depression in the creative process, and so to hold onto our bad feelings.  And we live in a society that despite the rhetoric, devalues the individual, rewards  group think, and doesn't understand what's truly precious.

Rage against the darkness, but do so by bringing light.  I'm with you.

I felt like I could have written that lately! So true! I'm trying too. It is difficult & time just goes by SOOOO FAST! Reminds me of Peggy Sue Got Married....if we could go back would we change anything? Would we appreciate it more? Even the bad times? Like Ferris Bueller "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

You have proved what I've been saying about you.  You are a woman who is changing.  Your writing just keeps getting better.  You just keep getting stronger.  You're such a great example for your children!  Congrats!

As you say, there always seems time for the unpleasant and worrisome to occupy our thoughts.  Even though we sometimes have to work to make room for the beauty in life, it is always worth it.  May you always find the beauty in all you see and do Michelle.

Bravo!  Well said!

You know, when I found out I had Ovarian Cancer 10 years ago, it stopped me in my tracks.  I suddenly looked around me and saw everything!  I mean everything! Every blade of grass, every leaf on every tree, every little nuence that I drove or walked by everyday in a rush, and never took the time to notice.  When you are faced with your mortality.. the thought that perhaps you won't live long enough to enjoy all the beauty around you, or to hold your children, or watch your grandchildren grow up... it's very eye opening.  I still try to take the time to smell the roses, and be grateful for every day that God has given me.  So many don't get that chance.  I was blessed.

Hugs,
Jackie

Oh my gosh, how true.  I always knew that time was flying and those small precious moments...like leaning over and smelling my children's hair, my son bringing me a dandelion, Eskimo kisses from the kids...were here and gone just like that.

Now my children are 20, nearly 18 and 14.  The older they got, the less Eskimo kisses I got, lol.  To be honest, ya can't blame them.  What teenager wants their friends to see them Eskimo kiss their mom?  lol

Then 2003 was a year of moments, within a time span of less than 2 months we found out that my dad had sclerosis of the liver, my mom had cancer, and that I was not going through early menopause but was pregnant.

I am proud to say that my mom is a cancer survivor.  However, we lost my dad on Feb. 29, 2004 merely 26 days before I gave birth to my daughter.  Now I have been blessed with a second chance to share life with my mom.  And I am blessed with another round of Eskimo kisses from Rylie.

Sorry for the novel, lol.  But your entry made me think and I wanted to share it with you.  Oh, by the way congratulations on being chosen for the editors list.
